Our mission is to develop economically viable
and scalable solutions to drastically reduce
carbon emissions within the decade
Our goal is to become the world’s leading manufacturer of water electrolysis systems for hydrogen production using renewable energy:
Green Hydrogen
Hydrogen is produced predominantly through Steam Methane Reforming and Coal Gasification emitting as much CO2 per year as the total CO2 emissions of the UK and Indonesia combined.
Green Hydrogen will play a key role in decarbonizing the economy, including hard to abate sectors such as industrial and chemical processes and long range transportation.
We are developing an innovative water electrolysis system based on our proprietary Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) with the following characteristics:
1s1 Energy was founded by a group of
experienced entrepreneurs and academics.
Daniel Sobek, Ph.D.
Co-Founder & CEO
Serial Entrepreneur
Technology Leader
Dr. Sobek is an entrepreneur with prior experience founding two deep tech companies. Prior to 1s1 Energy, he was the Chief Commercial Officer at Kernel, a $100M startup working on noninvasive brain interfaces. He has co-authored over 35 patents. Dr. Sobek holds a B.S in Aeronautics & Astronautics, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Sukanta Bhattacharyya, Ph.D.
Co-Founder & CTO
Materials & Organic Chemistry
Dr. Bhattacharyya has over 20-year experience in synthetic organic chemistry and materials chemistry development. He has published over 160 papers and proceedings, and has filed over ten patents. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Jadavpur University and has held a Humbolt fellowship at Würzburg University and a Max Planck Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute, Heidelberg.
Thiago Figueiredo
Chief Business Officer
Economist, Investor & Entrepreneur
Mr. Figueiredo is an investor/entrepreneur with a background in business and finance. He has founded a Forestry Investment Fund and has worked as a Venture Capitalist managing portfolios in Life Sciences in Europe. Mr. Figueiredo holds a bachelors in Economics from EESP-FGV in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Prof. T. Don Tilley, Ph.D.
Co-Founder
Materials & Organometallic Chemistry; Catalysis
Prof. Tilley is a full professor in Chemistry at the University of California at Berkeley and Faculty Senior Scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He has published over 480 papers covering catalysis, organometallic and materials chemistry. Prof. Tilley holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from UC Berkeley and was a joint Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology and ETH Zurich.
